Postdoctoral Researchers
- Definition
- A researcher with a doctoral degree. They participate in research projects and receive training under the guidance of an educational supervisor for a certain period to deepen their knowledge and research capabilities in their field.
- Types
- Postdoctoral Researchers : Selected through open recruitment by KIER
- YS Postdoctoral Researchers : government project aimed at creating jobs for young scientists, targeting new holders of doctoral degrees in science and engineering.
- Qualifications
- Those who obtained their doctoral degree within the last 5 years, those expected to obtain their doctoral degree within 3 months, those without disqualifications under KIER employment requirements, and first authors of SCI/SCI(E) papers
Tenure System
About the Tenure System
- Article 3 (Definition of Terms) of the Trainee Management Regulations, Article 7 and Article 14 (Training Period), Paragraph 2*
- (Purpose) To ensure the creation of research outcomes and the continuity of education for postdoctoral researchers.
- (Qualifications) Those who have not exceeded 5 years since obtaining their doctoral degree from the date of re-contracting and whose training period is less than 3 years.

- Article 3, Paragraph 7 The 'project-based tenure' system refers to operating the training period until the 'participation research project period' to ensure the creation of research outcomes and the continuity of education for postdoctoral researchers.
- Article 14, Paragraph 2 The training period shall be within 3 years. However, if the training qualifications under Article 11, Paragraph 1 are met at the time of contract or renewal, the training period can be extended by applying the project-based tenure system. When applying the project-based tenure system, the 'participation research project period' refers to the project phase period, not the entire project period.
- Article 11, Paragraph 1 The training qualifications for postdoctoral researchers are as follows: 1. Those who have not exceeded 5 years since obtaining their doctoral degree or are expected to obtain their doctoral degree within 3 months from the date of appointment or renewal.
Criteria for Applying the Tenure System
Applicable only to those who meet the tenure eligibility criteria, with the participation research project's phase duration exceeding one year as of the contract or renewal date.
- The training contract period is concluded annually through an annual evaluation until the end of the project phase period. However, if the remaining project period is less than one year as of the renewal date, the period ends with the project termination.

- The contract can be extended for up to one year.
The participation research project cannot be changed during the contract under the project-based tenure system.

Personality Test: Used as a reference for the interview. Those who do not take the test will be notified of non-participation in the interview and will be disqualified at the interview stage.
