The Korea Institute of Energy Research is contributing to securing a global position in Korea's energy sector by actively participating in multilateral cooperation organizations for the development of rational energy measures for 3E protection, namely, Energy Security, Economic Growth, Environment.

Status of activities of multilateral cooperation organizations

  • UNFCCC(United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change)

It was established in 1992 to respond to global warming and major meetings and resolutions were held at SUBSTA , SBI , and COP.

  • CTCN(Climate Technology Centre & Network)

Established in 2013. It is a UNFCCC-affiliated technical mechanism implementation organization to transfer technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to developing countries.

  • Mission InnovationMission Innovation

Declaration of mission innovation to expand investment in research and development of clean energy at the 21st UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP21) in 2015

  • RD20(Research and Development 20 for Clean Energy Technologies) G20

It was established in 2019 at the G20 Energy Ministers' Meeting to seek experiences and mutual international cooperation by gathering representative energy technology research institutes from each country to promote energy conversion and lead energy technology innovation in G20 countries.

    -World Bank: Established in 1945
-World Bank PASET: Established in 2013

  • CSLFCarbon Sequestration Leadership Forum

    Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum
Established in 2003, Cooperative system between countries for developing carbon dioxide treatment technology

  • ISO(International Organization for Standardization)

Established in 1946 for international cooperation in the areas of intellectual activities or scientificㆍtechnologicalㆍeconomic activities

  • IEC(International Electrotechnical Commission)

IEC is an International Electrical Standards Conference established in 1906, and it has been joined in the electrical sector of ISO with the establishment of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) in 1947. Currently, there are 109 Technical Committees (TC), and more than 2,000 IEC international standards have been established.

  • OECD(Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development)

It is the intergovernmental policy research cooperation organization that promotes the joint development and growth of the world economy, and human welfare through mutual policy coordination and cooperation between member states.

  • IPHE(International Partnership for the Hydrogen Economy)

It is an international partnership established in 2003 led by the United States for the development of hydrogen energy, and 19 countries around the world including Korea and the EC participate.

  • ESIG(Energy Systems Integration Group)

As a non-profit international organization in the area of energy system integration technology established in 2018 led by NREL, the U.S. Renewable Energy Research Institute, 156 organizations around the world participate.

IEA CERT(Committee on Energy Research and Technology) activity status

CERT, made up of senior experts from IEA member states, develops effective energy technologies and policies to improve energy security, promote environmental protection, and sustain economic growth. CERT supervises the technical forecasting, analysis, and RDD&D (Research, Development, Demonstration, and Deployment) strategy of the IEA Secretariat in accordance with the guidance of the IEA Board of Directors.

The IEA operates 36 technology collaboration programs (TCP) under 4 working parties, and advances energy technology around the world by autonomously sharing multilateral knowledge and resources by experts from public-private organizations in each country related to international energy technology RDD&D.

- EUWP(Energy End-Use(energy saving)) : 14 TCP
- WPFF(Fossil fuel) : 5 TCP
- REWP(Renewable energy) : 9 TCP
- FPCC(Fusion technology adjustment) : 8 TCP
