On March 2 (Wed), the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) held the 17th Knowledge Sharing Workshop on the theme of ‘Technology for Ammonia combustion.’

Ammonia is a carbon-free fuel that does not emit carbon dioxide after combustion and has played an increasingly significant role as a carrier for importing hydrogen from overseas. In addition, interest in ammonia has grown as the amount of hydrogen import from overseas and domestic needs for ammonia have taken shape in the recently announced plans and scenarios such as the First Basic Plan for Transition to Hydrogen Economy, the Plan to Enhance the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) by 2030, the National Scenario to Achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050.

In this regard, the knowledge sharing workshop was held to help the experts in ammonia combustion share their knowledge of their research fields and to devise the methods to cooperate on research in achieving carbon neutrality. The workshop featured presentations by topic and expert discussions.
