A research team led by Dr. of Kim Hee-yeon the High Temperature Energy Conversion Laboratory of Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) developed a technology for coating the surface of the catalysts of fuel cells and the electrodes of rechargeable batteries with porous graphene shells.

This technology can solve the fundamental issue of durability reduction in the catalysts of fuel cells and the electrodes of rechargeable batteries, increasing the durability by 200% or more by using porous graphene shells in the platinum catalyst for the fuel cell electrodes and the SiOx for the electrodes of rechargeable batteries.
Furthermore, KIER and Actro signed an agreement to transfer the porous graphene coating technology on May 6.
