A research team led by Dr. Ra Ho-won of the Clean Fuel Research Laboratory of Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) successfully developed a process that produces syngas through the gasification of pyrolysis oil from plastic waste.

The use of pyrolysis oil from plastic waste has been limited so far, but the technology to create high-value chemical raw materials (hydrogen, CO, etc.) with the pyrolysis oil has been developed domestically.

On August 24, KIER and Hanwha E&C signed a technology transfer agreement to share the knowledge of designing and operating gasifiers.
