A research team led by Dr. Tae-Young Mun of the Clean Fuel Research Laboratory of Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) became the first in Korea to develop the ammonia co-firing technology that reduces CO2 emissions in the Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion (CFBC) system.
The research team developed a technology that uses ammonia as a fuel in the 100 kWth CFBC system modeling commercial circulating fluidized bed boilers.
There has been no case of CFBC ammonia co-firing technology attempted or reported in or outside Korea, and the patent for ammonia co-firing technology that reduces CO2 and NOx while minimizing changes in the equipment has been acquired.
