The Korea Institute of Energy Research (Yi, Chang-keun, President of KIER) and the Korean Institute of Chemical Engineers (Seungho Lyu, President of KIChE) co-organized ‘CCU KIER N-Lab: e-Fuel A to Z, Feedstock-Production-Utilization’ workshop on Oct. 25 (Wed), 2023 in Daejeon Convention Center, in which 2023 KIChE Fall Meeting and International Symposium is being held from Oct. 25 (Wed) - 27 (Fri), 2023.

E-fuel stands for electricity-based fuel, meaning carbon neutral fuel that is synthesized from captured carbon dioxide and green hydrogen. E-fuel is suitable for aircraft, ships and diesel-powered vehicles. Recently, EU decided to apply exception on E-fuel using internal combustion engine for vehicles which will be banned for sale in EU by 2035. Consequently, E-fuel has generated great attention both domestically and internationally.

The workship is sponsored by KIER’s N-lab program. E-fuel professionals, engineers, scientists, and associated entities, public figures from 20 or more corporations and organizations have gathered to discuss the entire life-cycle of E-fuel, assess potential directions for R&D, and encourage efficient networking amongst each other.

Dr. Chun, Dong-hyun from KIER’s Carbon Conversion Research Laboratory, in charge of organizing the workshop, says, that the workship is to introduce a new concept of E-fuel to the country from A to Z and elaborate on the E-fuel value chain among a wide spectrum of people who are going to be key players in this area.
