KIER organized a Symposium on the Hydrogen Economy in collaboration with Research institutes, Universities and Industries.

The Korea Institute of Energy Research (Yi, Chang-keun, President of KIER) organized the 4th Hydrogen Economy and Korean Hydrogen Technology Symposium on August 23, 2023 in Westin Josun, Seoul.

The symposium reached to the 4th this year since it started on 2020 with the host of the Ministry of Science and ICT(MSIT). This year’s focus of the symposium is on the international collaboration on hydrogen and its current status, Korean hydrogen businesses reality, and future direction of hydrogen R&D.

The MSIT set the goal of becoming the leader of the global hydrogen market while securing super-gap hydrogen technology. On November last year the MSIT drew up “Hydrogen Technology Future Strategies” and selected hydrogen as one of the 12 National Strategic Technology. It further invests more resources in hydrogen R&D, facing the selection of “the National Hydrogen-focused Lab” which is going to perform the major role in the area of hydrogen technology by sector.

Yi, Chang-keun, President of the KIER, stated in his opening remarks for the symposium that hydrogen is an imperative with renewables to reach no-carbon power generation and the alternative energy-carrier for fossil fuels, thus hydrogen technology shall be the major component for global market and future cooperation. Also he showed his high expectation on the symposium’s role to collect national consensus and to pave the way to become the top-ranking country in the field of hydrogen technology.
