Dr. Ji-haeng Yoo's research team at Korea Institute of Energy Research's Energy Conversion & Storage Materials Laboratory succeeded in manufacturing a 1kW high-temperature fuel cell stack applied with brazing* sealing technology for the first time in Korea.
* Brazing : a metal-joining process in which two or more metal items are joined together by melting and flowing a filler metal into the joint, with the filler metal having a lower melting point than the adjoining metal.
This technology shows stable output performance by minimizing hydrogen leakage even in thermal shock or during repeated operation of heating, and cooling through a stack module design that minimizes the glass sealing material. In addition, it is an innovative manufacturing method to localize the stack, which accounts for 30-40% of the system price as a key component of high-temperature fuel cells using city gas, and to increase price competitiveness.
