Dr. Hyung-cheol Yoon's research team at Korea Institute of Energy Research's Clean Fuel Laboratory obtained Green Technology Certification* with a technology that simultaneously treats nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and water-soluble odor-causing substances using a wet cleaning system.

* Green Technology Certification : A system that certifies technologies related to green industries, such as new and renewable energy, carbon reduction, and clean production technology, in accordance with the 'Basic Act on Low Carbon, Green Growth'

This technology is founded on an aqueous solution based on a metal complex compound with strong antioxidant power and excellent absorption performance. It is an absorbent liquid with economic and environmental feasibility in that it can remove simultaneously nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides and water-soluble odor gases in exhaust gas at low temperatures below 100℃ with high efficiency.

This achievement is an example of applying the absorbent liquid developed in 2018 to the wet cleaning system of SMEs. The research team plans to intensively develop absorbent liquid recycling technology, which is the key to securing the economic feasibility of metal complex absorbent liquid-based exhaust gas treatment technology and to commercialize it through pilot plant operation within two years.
