The research team led by Dr. Jae-Yong Lee of the Energy ICT Convergence Research Department at the Korea Institute of Energy Research developed and successfully commercialized a 'wireless heating with security and smart hot water meter* system' that measures and diagnoses the condition of real-time heating and hot water consumption in district heating multi-unit dwellings through joint research with Korea District Heating Corporation.

* Smart meter : A digital metering device and accompanying systems that records information such as energy consumption of a household and communicates real-time information to the user's smartphone.

This system can be easily applied to existing manual meter reading apartments at a reasonable cost using the latest wireless communication technology, and is configured to enable real-time checking of heating and hot water usage information of each household without a separate communication fee. In addition, in order to prevent personal information leakage and data abuse issues due to wireless communication and hacking, it is embedded with security technology that can be authenticated through the Korea Cryptographic Module Validation Program (KCMVP) for the first time in the entire section.
