- Establishment of the next-generation cell technology platform including secondary battery, solar cell, and hydrogen utilization

■ The Korea Institute of Energy Research (President Kwak Byong-sung) held the ceremony of completing construction of Ulsan Advanced Energy Technology R&D Center at Techno General Industrial Complex in Ulsan on Wednesday, October 30.

□ The Ulsan Advanced Energy Technology R&D Center was jointly planned by the Korea Institute of Energy Research with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Information and the Ulsan Metropolitan City with 40.7 billion won of investment to establish a hub for R&D, demonstrate the next generation batteries and develop industrialization technology.  

○ Ulsan Advanced Energy Technology R&D Center, built on a total scale of 33,000m2 will not only support researches of original technology in the energy industry but also support commercialization through certification and demonstration. It will also operate programs to promptly resolve the difficulties of small and mid-sized companies to play a role in supporting the energy industry which will bring home the bacon in the future. 

○ Besides, through the joint researches and collaborations with universities and research institutes in Ulsan, it will operate specialized human resource development programs for each research area, implement the node role for industry, academia, and research networks in the region, share the cutting-edge expensive equipment and facilities, and offer technology training programs to nurture professional technology manpower in order to contribute to the local community

□ Ulsan Metropolitan Mayor Song Cheol-ho and about 250 prominent figures and representatives attended at the opening ceremony.

■ President Kwak Byong-sung of the Korea Institute of Energy Research said, “Ulsan Advanced Energy Technology R&D Center will faithfully fulfill its role as an R&D hub institution supporting the growth of the energy industry in the back and front through challenging and innovative researches and demonstrations.”.
