Korea Institute of Energy Research succeeded in developing a catalytic reaction system capable of mass producing vanadium electrolyte, a core material for vanadium redox flow battery, which is attracting attention as a next-generation Energy Storage System (ESS) in collaboration with KAIST, Yonsei University, and ES Co., Ltd.

Vanadium electrolyte manufacturing technology is a core material technology for vanadium redox flow batteries that will replace existing lithium batteries with high fire risk in large-capacity ESS. This newly developed large-capacity catalytic reactor can localize vanadium electrolyte, which was entirely dependent on foreign countries. Furthermore, the original technology confirmed on a laboratory scale has been demonstrated as a level capable of mass production.
