Dr. Kim Byung-ki's research team at the KIER has developed a 12MVA-class low-voltage* high-voltage** compensation function test and evaluation device that can evaluate the world's largest-capacity wind turbine. The team also developed IEC-61400-21-1***-based system-linked test and evaluation technology that meets international standards for the first time in Korea.
* LVRT (Low Voltage Ride Through): The performance of the wind power generator to maintain the linkage state in case of instantaneous voltage drop due to system failure.
** HVRT (High Voltage Ride Through): The performance of the wind power generator to maintain the linkage state in case of instantaneous voltage rise due to system failure *** IEC-61400-21-1: International standard for measuring and evaluating electrical characteristics of wind turbines

The research team has established a system that can conduct grid-connected suitability tests for wind power generators in Korea through the developed equipment and technology, starting this year. Accordingly, the system is expected to reduce the long period required for overseas certification and type testing of domestic wind power generator companies and protect wind power generation technology.
