Photovoltaics Research Department of the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) has developed a core technology for low-cost, highly efficient perovskite/CISSe tandem solar cells. This technology is to manufacture these tandem solar cells easily by coating them with a solution at atmospheric environment.

Researchers have achieved a new highest efficiency record of 14.4% (exceeding the previous record of the existing device, 13.5%) by applying the new method of coating the fuel cells with the solution at atmospheric environment. This method is considered having higher capability for mass production with enhanced efficiency.

The result of this research is critical as it has developed the core technology that allows tandem solar cells to achieve higher power generation performance while lowering manufacturing costs.

The result was recognized for its excellence and featured as the outside front cover of the April issue of Energy & Environmental Science (IF 38.532), one of the best energy and environmental science journals.
