KIER (president, Dr. Gwak Byong-sung) held the 2nd Silicon PV platform workshop

- It provided a place for sharing information among domestic and international experts of silicon solar cell

Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) held ‘the 2nd silicon PV platform workshop’ at Yuseong Hotel in Daejeon on June 26 (Tue). □ Silicon PV platform workshop, which started from 2017, supports for sharing information among domestic and international experts of silicon solar cell and securing market competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.

□ This event started with opening marks from Dr. Yoon Jae-ho, director of New and Renewable Energy Institute, KIER and Song Jae-Cheon PD of Korea Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP). In the event, they planned to deal with issues of photovoltaic industry and current status of technology strategies of enterprises. Also, panel debate was scheduled.

□ Dr. Yoon Jae-ho, director of New and Renewable Energy Institute, KIER, expected that “Photovoltaic industry of the country would be expanded to the scale of about 74 trillion won in relation to government energy policy.” Also he said “We would support enterprises to anticipate and respond to market changes rapidly through this silicon PV platform workshop.”

□ Photovoltaics laboratory of KIER set up ‘Integrated PV platform center’ in 2016 at the institute in Daejeon. The center supports small and medium-sized businesses for manufacturing cells and modules, performance evaluation, reliability verification and technical training.

□ In response to next generation technology, it plans to provide support services for processes of silicon heterojunction and interdigitated back contact which draw attention as mass production technology of high efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells.
