Clean Fuel

Clean Fuel Research

The Clean Fuel Laboratory aims to contribute to the national energy security by developing methods to produce clean fuels from low-grade resources and to ensure a stable supply of gas and crude oil by diversifying technologies of the production, treatment, and utilization of gas and crude oil (heavy crude oil)

  • acid gas removal for FLNG
  • isher-tropsch synthesis reactor(capacity :15bbl/day
  • KIER CTL Plant
  • ash-free coal production pilot plant (1 ton/day

Major research fields

  • Upgrading technology of low-grade fuel
  • Gasification technology using low-grade fuel
  • Development of distributed power generation system using gasification
  • CTL (coal-to-liquid) and BTL (biomass-to-liquid) technology
  • High-performance catalysts for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis
  • Refinery and petrochemical process technology
  • Gas and liquid separation process: adsorption, distillation, absorption, crystallization
  • Treatment and conversion of offshore and onshore natural gas/crude oil(FLNG, FPSO, etc.)

Major research results

  • The integrated CTL process for the first time in Korea: 0.1 bbl/d and 15 bbl/d
